theBlu is now a well-known VR experience on Steam — a serene, awe-inspiring dive into underwater worlds. But back in 2013, it was still a PC app with no VR. I joined WemoLab (now Wevr) as a part-time intern, and during that internship, I bootstrapped the VR integration and delivered the first working version for the Oculus Rift VR Jam.
My role
- 🥽 Built the First VR Version: Took the original PC app and fully integrated Oculus Rift support from the ground up for the 2013 Oculus Rift VR Jam.
- 🧭 Implemented a New VR-Compatible UI to fit immersive needs and input limitations
- 🔐 Implemented Client and Server-Side Login & Payment Systems to support the broader interactive platform
My work ended up becoming the foundation for the current VR model of theBlu that's live on Steam today. It's surreal and satisfying to know that the work I did during those few months helped shape it.
